First, I am not a neuroscientist, psychologist, psychiatrist, or any form of medical affiliation. However, I am a long-life learner, survivor, and Educator. I have been my own coach for 15 years, coming from the other side of pain. Learning a lot about myself and what is the causation and correlation of mental and physical debilitation across life. Living in an age of emotional disconnection, intergenerational trauma, and modern life challenges. Most adults function from a survival mode, carrying this heavy package of familial history background, environmental toxins, challenges, socioeconomic battles, and political and faith clashes. Battles that humankind brought onto themselves. In the hunters and gatherers era, finding methods to survive and fight the dangers, chasing the tigers, and running on high levels of cortisol and adrenaline, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. However, their biological build-up was different. They could survive and be exposed to the natural dangers surrounding them, living in caves, mountains, deserts, and water streams. They created the lifestyle that would enable them to survive, which may be explained through Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs ' Physical: food, sleep, sex, shelter, Safety: security of body, work, property, Belonging: love, affection, family, and sexual intimacy." Most of the daily routines were focused on the animal brain, reptilian, and mammalian brain due to the limitation of life, or the nature of life around them. Stress, since hunters and gatherers were the dominant drives of survival, Human life was at risk due to the natural environment. Hence, the drive for protection and safety was fear driven. However, they presented the pure image of human life without industrial development. They created their own tools for the better of their understanding. A question still persists: " Did they fight for self-esteem and self-actualization?" Were they living to search for a higher meaning than the animal brain? Was there any conceptualization of life beyond the physical and safety needs? How did they reflect on that? Who guided them? And if there is another story that may be shaped where we are right now, functioning from a brain exhaustion state that brings us to the "Survival Mode" yet from a modern-industrialized and urbanized perspective?
Why do humans still choose to function from an emotionally reactive state, jumpy, disruptive, aggressive, and unrest? Your energy tells a lot about the point of functioning in the world. An overloaded Autonomic Nervous System. Moving from hunters and gathers to the industrialized modern world added nothing but more stressors and complexity to life dynamics. The conflict between maintaining life, meeting life obligations, dysfunctional relationships, and political and religious conflicts that humans can carry negative consequences whether they agree or not. It tunes into loading your systems with more toxins, and negative emotions run from the constant loop of negative thinking, the "Default Mode Network." that depletes the brain's ability to do its work productively. Approximately 60,000 thoughts per day act as a distraction and turn the sympathetic nervous system. Activating the fight- flight- freeze response, accelerating the heart rate, high blood pressure, fluctuating rhythm in the heart, and breathing. Allowing negative reactive impulsive, and disruptive behaviors to be dominant. Blocking the Positive-Task default mode to counterfeit the overwhelmed state of the nervous system, impacting how you think, react, and eat, depleting your essential neurotransmitters, and impacting organ function. Reaching this state of homeostasis imbalances. Physical dysfunction, and fatigue, impact the brain in a harmful way and can lead to the destruction of neural function. Decrease in concentration, poor performance on a task, poor engagement with the world.
The need for safety persists, and trust becomes an issue, leading to negative presumptions and poor decision-making. The constant state of conflict within the Mind- Body, the"I," "me," "myself," and others. Creates this state of "I" Vs. "Them," "us," Vs." them." This constant running equation in every thought, action, decision, and step a human operates within the world. Lots of implicit calculations where they belong, who should be there, who shouldn't;t be there, who is excluded, and who is included? How much that results in, and where it takes me further? How much does that bring back into their deposits? What are the financial burdens that occur from operating from this overthinking that is controlled by the attitudes, beliefs, social, cultural, and comparison mindset? Comparison within familial dynamics, society, community, tribe, groups, nations, and the world. Imagine modern human life still operating from the prejudice and biases among eastern vs. western, European Vs non-European, and African Vs. Non-African, White Vs. Non-white is the mental segregation mindset that implies the sociocultural, socioeconomically, sociopolitical, and socioreligious within in-groups and out-groups. Shaping the social class conflicts and the drive to dominate over a specific industry or service. The increased drive to control. To keep the status quo among either minority or majority. It doesn't matter which group a human belongs to or pretends to belong to anymore.
That leads to another survival mode behavior, which is masking. To get what we want, humans started to lean onto fake it till you make it, motives in disguise, and playing actors, and actresses in real-life theatre, wages are determined according to the part taking place. Masking real feelings and opinions, denying the inner voice of truth, or expressing the voice of opposite thoughts. In modern life, that is the core of conflicts among generations, races, and nations. It helps keep control. And maintain the social dynamic to that state that is supposed to reach the hidden goals. Maskingallowed many identities to be suppressed and hidden under the character being played. Masking can help humans to reach the place they want to get to. However, maintaining it is an expensive task. It can cost humans their health, productivity, relationships, and conscious state. Having healthy thinking, a healthy brain, and a healthy body with social masking is hard. It started when the person thought that was the way to earn the world. However, what is happening in reality, they are losing themselves. In social making, nothing will be satisfactory, nothing will be enough, and no one will be equivalent to the status that they reached the expense of their own identity. Imagine when humans are running from survival mode all their lives. What could be the type of mind and body they carry along the way? Is it worth it? How often have you battled within and kept your social masking intact? What risky behaviors do you adopt to ensure the mask is still there? Society will keep raising its challenges to see who is ready to drop the "self" and deny the "self" for endless short gains. Controlled by impulsive gratification toward the desires, and hunger for control, power, authority, and other gains come across at the expense of real life. Creating conflict becomes the currency for more drive to control. And life turns into endless fights for hidden motives and the drive to control. Which is not a healthy life. A life that drives pain, dis-ease, stress, and more division among humans. A life that drives conflict over peace. A life that doesn't honor God in each life around. It is a life for short, perished gains. So, what is up to your mind? Conflict or peace, Brain exhaustion, or Brain health? By: ME, "The Old Ancient Woman"
